Staff Sergeant Steven Lang was born on 5 June 1950 in Pawtucket, RI. He enlisted in the US Army on 29Aug68 and served on Active Duty for three years. He was trained as an Aircraft (Helicopter) Mechanic and was discharged as a Specialist 4th Class. In 1985, he enlisted in the Vermont Army National Guard. He served as a fulltime (AGR) Unit Supply Specialist and was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He was discharged in 1988. In 1990, he enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard and served as a Supply Specialist assigned to HHSB, 2nd Bn, 116th Field Artillery. He completed the Basic Airborne Course and was awarded the Parachutist Badge in 1990. He served as an AGR Recruiter assigned to the Florida National Guard State Area Command from 1993 until 1998. In 2003, he enlisted in Company C, 3rd Bn, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Florida Army National Guard. He was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2006, he was medically retired. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his 27 years of military service. He died of cancer on 22 August 2017. He was buried with military honors in the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sec C1D-2, Row A, Site 34. He is survived by five children. His brother requested that his name be added to the Chapter 48 Roll Call of Remembrance. Chapter member Peter Wisnieski (A4571) presented the request to Chapter members for approval.
